RE: Digital Multimeter Question

What you see in the book is correct. The meter is connected between the pos post of the battery and the connector that is normally connected to the post. a reading of 12 volts will indicate that something is competing a circuit back to the negative side of the battery.

RE: Hot Water Heater Problem

I solved that problem with an accumulator installation. Never had it come up again. I would not go for a higher psi on the relief valve, the pipes may blow before the valve opens.

RE: Wheel bearings questions

The made in USA product is not necessarily made in North America. The last ones I baught came from Mexico. I found that of the bearings coming from over the oceans are usualy very cheep, but have to say the chineese product seem to be the better ones. I do not think you will have a problem with them..

RE: axle flipping and driveability

I flipped the axle’s on my old fifth wheel and never noticed any difference in performance going down the road. The DW was worried that the wheels where going to fall off, but after the first thousand miles she relaxed. I had done the job myself and the trailer was close to 7 inches taller.

RE: Airtabs, does anyone use them on their trailers or trucks?

ArmySFCRet, your post was checked out and certainly a help to those who never heard of the Tab’s.
I have checked forums in both North America and Australia and find the fuel consumption to very from nil to about 10%. At 10% it would definitely be worth the installation of the AitTabs, but at the nil end it would just be an expensive decoration. Every body that has them, seem to have a noticeable improvement to air buffeting and in some cases a very noticeable improvement.
I will be keeping an eye of the price of the tabs, if it goes down to a reasonable amount I will probably get a set.
I wish to thank all who responded to my question.

Airtabs, does anyone use them on their trailers or trucks?

The manufacturer of the Airtab says up to 8% fuel saving. In checking around various forums it seems to me the fuel saving is more like 1 or 2 % or less. I figure at 2% I would have to buy $9000 worth of fuel to make up the cost of the tabs. If you have them on your rig, what do you say about them?

RE: Question about rubber roofs and condensation

If this is a problem with a rubber roof then it is a problem with a metal roof and a plastic roof and a fiberglass roof. I don’t think it is a problem with any of the roofs except in some cases where a problem exists and moist air can get at the under side of the roof.

RE: Need Doom and Gloom Forum

First warm day of the winter, today it is 2 degrees above freezing. I am going to go out to the snowbound fifth and start sawing a hole in the seat by the table. (Installing a pull out drawer)
Plan to travel this summer, don’t know how the money will last, if I don’t get there today I get there tomorrow, or next week, who cares!

RE: Dark Film in trailer

Was there not a recall on many RV’s in the last year about furnaces that where venting into the trailer because of a blockage of the exhaust vent pipe? Better check it out.

RE: Hydro Flame Flame Adjustment

Have you removed the Orifice? If it is partly plugged the flame will be reduced. To clean take it out and blow through it in the reverse direction of gas flow. You should see light through the small round hole in the middle of it. I don’t know how big the orifice is but you may be able to place it in a propane blow torch in the reverse position and turn on the propane for a second to blow it out. Or just buy a new one.

RE: Oh no ! Not another weight question.

The only spring I ever had to replace was on the trailer. Never had a problem with the truck springs.

RE: 5th wheel towing with a 1/2 ton truck

The only problems I can see is the short box on your truck and you might need a different tire size to keep a good pulling rear end ratio. Myself I pull a 26 foot fifth about the same weight as you give in your post, and I pull it with a 98 Dakota, 6.5 ft box, 318 engine and a 3.9 rear end. I generally put on over 2000 miles a year and have not had any problems.
